UK Bans 1,632 Ghanaians for visa fraud

The United Kingdom has banned 1,632 Ghanaians from applying for visas for 10 years after using fraudulent methods to obtain the documents.

The figure represents 4% of all Ghanaian visa applicants last year.

“In 2024, 1,632 applicants from Ghana used fraudulent means when applying for UK visit visas. While this is only four per cent of all applicants, it is still far too many misled by agents into actions that led to a decade-long visa ban,” said Dr. Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana.

The High Commissions of Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom in Ghana launched a one-week public awareness campaign to address the growing threat of visa fraud.

Visa fraud has continued to affect many Ghanaians, with misinformation and fraudulent agents causing financial losses, emotional distress, and long-term travel restrictions.

A joint statement by the three High Commissions said the campaign forms part of a global effort led by UK Visas & Immigration, with support from partner countries including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

“The campaign coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week (November 16–22, 2025) and aims to educate the public on visa scams, promote safe application practices, and encourage the use of official government channels,” the statement added.

Australia’s High Commissioner, Berenice Owen-Jones, said the campaign sends a clear message that visa applicants should rely on official sources and avoid anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed approvals.

Canada’s High Commissioner, Myriam Montrat, said Canada is committed to safe, orderly and regular migration. “We are taking decisive steps to stop fraudulent practices that put applicants at risk. Collaborating with Australia and the UK reflects our shared commitment to protect applicants and maintain the integrity of immigration systems,” she said.

The three countries stressed their dedication to ensuring transparent, secure, and accessible visa processes for Ghanaians. During the campaign, the High Commissions will share educational content on social media under the hashtag #AUSCANUKGH.
