Telecel Group, Huawei Seal USD 70m MOU to Accelerate Digital Transformation in Ghana

Telecel Group and Huawei Technologies have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly advance network modernization and digital transformation efforts in Ghana, reinforcing their long-term partnership and commitment to expanding connectivity across the country.
The agreement, signed in Shenzhen, China, on November 4, 2025, establishes a collaborative framework for the Telecel Ghana Rollout Project, a multi-phase initiative valued at approximately USD 70 million. The project aims to significantly enhance network performance, improve coverage, and introduce next-generation digital services for both consumers and enterprises.
This strategic investment will play a central role in upgrading Ghana’s digital infrastructure, a critical enabler for economic competitiveness in today’s increasingly digital global landscape. Implementation of the network expansion has already commenced, marking a major step toward improved service delivery and nationwide connectivity.
Telecel Group COO, Malek Atrissi, described the MOU as a milestone in the Group’s long-standing cooperation with Huawei. “For Telecel Group, this MOU represents a significant step forward in our long-standing collaboration with Huawei, the Group’s strategic partner across its different markets. It aligns with the Group’s mission to advance digital infrastructure and innovative services in Ghana, aligning with broader efforts to expand connectivity and drive sustainable growth,” he said.
CEO of Telecel Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership, stating, “This partnership marks an important milestone in our mission to deliver world-class digital experiences to our customers. Huawei’s proven expertise and technology leadership will help us enhance capacity, reliability, and innovation within Ghana’s telecom landscape.”
Huawei also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital evolution. In a statement, the company said it is “proud to strengthen our long-term partnership with Telecel and to contribute to Ghana’s digital transformation, adding that the MOU reflects a shared vision of “building an intelligent, inclusive, and connected future.”
As digital access becomes increasingly vital for socio-economic development, the strengthened collaboration between Telecel and Huawei is expected to accelerate Ghana’s progress in expanding broadband access, improving network resilience, and supporting emerging technologies.
The signing of the MOU also highlights the growing importance of strategic partnerships in advancing Africa’s digital economy and underscores both organisations’ shared intent to foster sustainable growth across the continent’s telecom ecosystem.
