Daily Minimum Wage up by 9%
The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has announced a 9% increase in the 2026 National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW), raising it to GH¢21.77. This decision was made at a meeting held in Accra on Sunday, November 9, 2025, under Section 113(1)(a) of the Labor Act, 2003 (Act 651).
According to a communiqué from the Committee, several factors influenced the wage review, including the current economic situation, rising cost of living, the need for business sustainability, and the goal of promoting job creation and maintaining industrial peace.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during the meeting, expressed appreciation to organized labor for their cooperation, stating that the increment supports efforts to enhance Ghana’s economic recovery. He noted that although the country recently faced challenges such as high inflation and interest rates, both have now declined, and the government is working to reduce inflation further from the current 8 percent to ease the burden on Ghanaians.
The Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, described the agreement as a strong indication of the government’s commitment to labor peace and economic resilience.
The Trades Union Congress (TUC), through Secretary-General Joshua Ansah, acknowledged workers’ willingness to accept the 9 percent raise but cautioned the government against introducing new levies or tariff hikes that could reduce the benefit. The TUC also called for the government to honor all commitments made during the negotiations to protect workers’ welfare.
This salary increase follows previous increments in recent years, including a 23 percent increase in the first half of 2024 and 25 percent in the second half, and a 10 percent raise in 2025. The 9 percent increase for 2026 reflects the government’s efforts to balance fair compensation with fiscal discipline during the country’s ongoing economic recovery. The committee further recommended that the 2026 National Daily Minimum Wage be exempt from taxation to allow workers to fully benefit from the wage increase.
