The Acting Registrar of Companies, Maame Samma Peprah, has reaffirmed that Deloitte and other professional institutions remain strategic partners in promoting compliance, best practices and responsible corporate behaviour within Ghana’s business environment.
Speaking at the recent Deloitte–ORC Webinar themed “Ensuring Compliance Act: Insights from the Registrar of Companies”, Mrs Peprah underscored the importance of compliance in building trust among partners, customers, regulators and investors.
She emphasised that compliance is not solely the responsibility of the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) but a shared obligation among businesses, regulatory institutions and professional bodies.
“The ORC is committed to work with you, Deloitte, not just to enforce but to educate, guide and support. At the ORC, we aim to foster not just a compliance requirement but a culture of compliance, where good record keeping, ethical management and timely reporting become second nature to businesses,” Mrs Peprah stated.
The Acting Registrar explained that the role of the ORC extends far beyond issuing company registration certificates.
“We are enablers of the business environment, where good governance thrives and companies operate transparently,” she said, stressing that her office is dedicated to supporting businesses of all sizes to understand and meet their legal and regulatory obligations in a straightforward and accessible manner.
Mrs Peprah noted that in recent years, the ORC has adopted a more dynamic and collaborative approach by streamlining filing procedures, digitising registration processes and engaging directly with the business community through educational campaigns and stakeholder forums.
“We see Deloitte and similar professional institutions not just as observers but as strategic partners in promoting best practices, sharing knowledge and encouraging responsible corporate behaviour,” the Acting Registrar added.
On his part, Mr Daniel Kwadwo Owusu, Country Managing Partner of Deloitte, commended the ORC for its collaborative approach and reiterated the importance of compliance to corporate growth and sustainability.
He explained that the Companies Act seeks to enhance Ghana’s corporate regulatory environment by improving registration processes, strengthening governance frameworks and leveraging digitalisation to make compliance easier and more transparent.
Mr Owusu indicated Deloitte organised the webinar to deepen discussions on regulatory obligations and compliance, stressing that the partnership with the ORC would help businesses better understand the practical implications of the Companies Act and its role in ensuring business integrity and investor confidence.
