Tech startups create jobs, spur economic growth – Aya HQ manager

The Manager of Aya HQ Builder Hub, Kwame Stalwart, has underscored the significant role tech startups play in promoting sustainable economic growth by generating indirect employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
Speaking on Zed FM’s Business Breakfast, Mr Stalwart explained that while tech startups might not directly employ large numbers, their economic impact extends broadly, creating a ripple effect across different sectors.
This ripple effect reaches as far as students in senior high schools and universities, providing them with opportunities to engage in the growing tech ecosystem.
“For instance, a tech startup founder like Learnway cannot build a company alone. He requires a team including co-founders, UX designers, front-end and back-end developers, marketers and community managers. These roles ensure that the product or service is properly marketed, adopted and ultimately profitable,” Mr Stalwart said.
He emphasised that the contribution of startups to employment is often overlooked when compared to traditional industries such as manufacturing.
Mr Stalwart highlighted how a marketer employed by a startup might recruit ambassadors who help spread awareness and adoption of the product.
These ambassadors can be students, who under normal circumstances would focus solely on their studies but now gain the chance to earn incentives by supporting the startup’s growth.
Mr Stalwart added, “We often fail to see tech startups from the broader perspective. Startups are frequently perceived as small teams of two or three people, but many of today’s billion-dollar businesses began this way. This shows the profound potential of startups to transform the business landscape and create widespread job opportunities.”
Mr Stalwart further shed light on the growing importance of tech startups as engines of innovation, employment and economic development, encouraging broader recognition of their value in the national economy.
