Konongo Wesley SHS students rampage over WASSCE cheating clash

The Police were called to Wesley Senior High School in Konongo, Ashanti Region, to restore calm after some students allegedly went on a rampage and pelted stones at the residence of the senior housemistress.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a confrontation between the housemistress and a candidate writing this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), whom she accused of attempting to cheat.

In an interview, Headmistress Rev Agnes Gaisie explained that after the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) paper, the candidate verbally assaulted the housemistress for preventing him from cheating.

The student was later invited by school authorities, made to apologise and taken through counselling.

However, on the night of Sunday, 7 September, some students allegedly attacked the housemistress’s residence with stones in retaliation.

Rev Gaisie noted that investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators but assured that the situation has since been brought under control.

“The police have intervened, calm has been restored, and the examinations are progressing smoothly,” she said.
