2Face crowns Burna Boy Nigeria’s number one

Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has openly declared Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy as his number one artiste in Nigeria today.

In a recent media interview, the iconic ‘African Queen’ crooner said that while he admires many of the country’s leading acts, Burna Boy stands out to him personally as the “senior” among the current generation of Nigerian stars.

“On a personal level, Burna Boy is my number one. Although I still have other artists that I admire. But personally, as an artist, Burna Boy is my number one right now. Among all the others I am referring to, he is the senior,” 2Face said.

He further explained that the Nigerian music industry is rich with emerging talents who are fast gaining global traction, but Burna Boy’s consistency, artistry and international appeal put him in a class of his own.

“There are still other ones that are coming up behind him that I see going to the same level,” 2Face added.

The endorsement comes at a time when Burna Boy continues to dominate both African and international charts, with sold-out concerts at global arenas, multiple award wins and collaborations with some of the biggest names in world music.

Burna Boy, born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has become a symbol of the new wave of Afrobeats, blending traditional African sounds with global genres to create a unique, exportable style.

Having risen to continental fame in the early 2000s, 2Face paved the way for modern Afrobeats artists, many of whom credit him as a major influence.
