WASSCE 2025: Invigilator caught with leaked questions at Forces SHS

An official monitoring tour of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Accra has exposed a case of alleged malpractice at Forces Senior High Technical School in Burma Camp.

The Head of the National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr Rosemond Wilson, uncovered the incident during her inspection of examination centres on Monday, 25 August 2025.

According to WAEC officials, an invigilator at the centre was caught with a mobile phone containing examination questions.

Suspicion was raised after Dr Wilson’s attention was drawn to the invigilator, who appeared improperly dressed, contrary to examination regulations.

A further search revealed that the device contained questions for subjects such as Picture Making and Oral English, raising fresh concerns over the integrity of the examination process.

The development highlights the persistent challenge of examination malpractice in Ghana.

A 2024 report by Africa Education Watch warned that widespread fraud continues to undermine the credibility of the WASSCE certificate and the competence of graduates entering tertiary institutions.

WAEC regulations strictly prohibit invigilators and supervisors from possessing mobile phones or unauthorised materials at exam centres. Any breach is deemed a criminal offence under the WAEC Act.

In response, officials confiscated the invigilator’s mobile phone for investigation and directed him to submit a detailed written statement explaining the presence of the questions.

A full-scale probe is expected to be launched to establish the source of the leaked questions and possible syndicate involvement.

The administration of Forces Senior High Technical School is expected to cooperate with WAEC and security agencies to ensure transparency in the investigation.

WAEC has reiterated its commitment to curbing examination fraud, stressing that it will continue working with law enforcement to arrest and prosecute individuals involved in such acts.

The first core paper for this year’s WASSCE, Social Studies, was scheduled for Monday, 25 August.
