Shatta Wale granted GH₵10m bail

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has been granted bail to the tune of GHS10 million with two sureties, following his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with a yellow 2019 Lamborghini Urus allegedly linked to international financial crimes.

The artiste, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., voluntarily reported to EOCO’s headquarters on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to assist with ongoing investigations.

His manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, confirmed the bail arrangement, stating that the legal team is working to satisfy the conditions by Thursday, 21 August.

According to his management, the inquiry centres on tax obligations related to the luxury vehicle and the operations of Shatta Wale’s company.

His detention was first disclosed via a Facebook post by Sammy Flex, who assured fans that the team was cooperating fully with authorities.

“We urge the SM Family and all well-wishers to remain calm and avoid any speculation. We have the utmost confidence in the judicial process,” Mr Baah said.

The saga dates back to June 2025, when EOCO, acting on a 2023 request from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice, seized the Lamborghini from Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley.
In a statement signed by EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the agency revealed that the vehicle had been traced to the criminal proceeds of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian national currently serving an 86-month sentence in the US for financial crimes.

“The car was seized from Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale… The vehicle is currently in EOCO’s possession,” the statement noted.

EOCO further disclosed that Shatta Wale had requested the seizure be kept private, citing concerns over potential damage to his brand.

The FBI and the US Department of Justice are expected to formally request the repatriation of the vehicle as part of a USD4.7 million restitution order against Mr Amuah.

EOCO also indicated that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau have been designated as persons of interest and may be summoned again as investigations continue.
