From GH₵770 salary to creative freedom — Mawuli Gavor on quitting corporate life

Actor and model Mawuli Gavor has opened up about his bold decision to leave a promising corporate career at KPMG to pursue life in the creative economy.
In a conversation with Blac Volta, Gavor recalled the difficult balancing act between his job as an auditor and his rising career in modelling and entertainment.
Despite the prestige of working at a global firm, he revealed that he earned only GHS770 a month at the time, a figure that made him question whether the corporate grind was worth the sacrifices.
“I was constantly torn between my office responsibilities and creative opportunities. Sometimes I’d show up for a 6 a.m. photoshoot only for people to arrive at 11 a.m., and then I still had to rush to the office in my tie. It became impossible to juggle both,” he recounted.
At one point, the frustration pushed him to consider abandoning the creative path altogether. But just as he was about to walk away, Martini, a brand he worked with, made him an irresistible offer.
After asking how much he earned in a year at KPMG, they offered to pay him the equivalent amount in a single day.
“That moment sealed my decision. I just had to send a message to my HR at KPMG to resign,” he said.
Gavor stressed, however, that the move was not simply about money but about reclaiming his freedom.
“The creative economy gave me the one thing the corporate job couldn’t, control over my time,” he explained.
Today, Gavor has become a household name in acting and modelling, a testament to the power of taking risks and following one’s passion.
