Ghana Career Fair 2025 launched to tackle youth job crisis

The Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development, in partnership with GIZ Ghana, has officially launched the 8th edition of the Ghana Career and Migration Fair (GCMF), aimed at addressing Ghana’s rising youth unemployment crisis.
Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), this year’s fair is themed “The Future of Work.”
The initiative is also in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and highlights a renewed commitment to creating sustainable job pathways for young Ghanaians.
The 2025 edition is scheduled for September 17 and is expected to connect thousands of job seekers with potential employers across various sectors. It will serve as a key platform for employment, skills development, ethical labor migration guidance, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Chantel Kristin Bredua Lahmer, Policy Advisor at the German Embassy, noted that the theme is timely, especially given the rapid evolution of the global labor market driven by technology, climate change, and digital transformation. She emphasized the importance of preparing young people for the jobs of the future.
Chief Director at the Ministry, Hamid Adakruku, called on government agencies, private sector players, and relevant institutions to fully support the initiative.
He stated that the government has committed to creating over two million dignified jobs by 2028. With approximately 300,000 young people entering the job market each year, he said, it is essential to provide platforms like the GCMF to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers.
Ghana’s youth unemployment rate currently stands at 27.2 percent (GSS, 2023), while global youth unemployment exceeds 73 million (ILO, 2023). Kwaku Yeboah, Component Manager at the Ghanaian-European Centre, encouraged the youth to explore every opportunity presented at the fair to enhance their career prospects and secure meaningful employment.
