The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and fatally shot another in two separate operations within the region.
According to the police, the first incident occurred on July 9 along the Ankaako–Asuoso–Fenase road in the Amansie South District.
A distress call reported that four armed men had set up a roadblock and were robbing commuters.
A patrol team quickly responded and apprehended all four suspects as they tried to escape on motorbikes.
The suspects have been identified as Rahman Alhassan, 27; Nurudeen Fatawu, 25; Naafewu Masahudu, 22; and Yaw Saaka, 42.
Items recovered from the suspects included one pump-action shotgun, 20 rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword, and a collection of talismans.
In a separate intelligence-led operation at Abedwum in the Obuasi Municipality, one suspected armed robber was shot and killed during a police raid.
The police said the deceased and his accomplices were involved in a robbery spree in the area. When police arrived, the gang fled into nearby bushes while firing at officers. Police returned fire, fatally wounding one of the suspects.
A search of the deceased’s backpack uncovered 14 rounds of ammunition and other items.
The police say the remaining suspects escaped and are believed to have been wounded by gunfire. A manhunt is underway to apprehend them.
