Fake Gold Board taskforce officials nabbed in Tarkwa
The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested two men for impersonating members of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Taskforce and engaging in acts of extortion.
The suspects, Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38, both of whom claim to be former military personnel, were picked up after police received reports that they had been approaching gold dealers while posing as Taskforce officials.
A search conducted during their arrest led to the recovery of items believed to aid in their activities, including a pair of handcuffs, a pepper spray canister, an electric shock device, a uniform, and GHS 500 in cash.
The two have since been arraigned at the Tarkwa Circuit Court and remanded into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police say they are working to determine whether the suspects were part of a larger operation targeting gold traders in the region.
Meanwhile, the Regional Police Command is urging the public to remain vigilant and request official identification from anyone claiming to represent government agencies.
