EC sets July 11 rerun for 19 Ablekuma North polling stations

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
The decision follows a meeting held on Tuesday, July 1, between the Commission and representatives of the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as part of efforts to resolve the impasse that has stalled the declaration of results in the constituency since the December 7, 2024, general election.
The meeting, which served as a follow up to an earlier engagement on June 12, allowed both parties to reaffirm their positions. The NDC maintained its call for a rerun in 37 polling stations, arguing that scanned pink sheets used in the collation of results in those areas were supplied by the NPP. Conversely, the NPP insisted that results from three outstanding polling stations should be collated and a winner declared, citing verification and approval of the scanned documents by NDC agents.
The EC clarified that the dispute centered on the authenticity of 37 scanned pink sheets used in the collation of the parliamentary results. The original documents were reportedly destroyed by party supporters during disturbances at the constituency collation center in the aftermath of the election.
The Commission has concluded that the election will be rerun in 19 polling stations where the scanned results were not verified by the respective presiding officers, despite being approved by agents of both political parties. The remaining 18 polling stations will not be included in the rerun, as the Commission has since secured verification from the presiding officers and reaffirmation from party agents.
The EC has also assured the public of a transparent and credible process and has called on the Ghana Police Service to ensure security and maintain order throughout the election.
