NIA workers call off strike, resume services nationwide today
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the suspension of the indefinite strike action by its staff under the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), allowing for the full resumption of registration and identification services across the country starting Monday, June 30, 2025.
The announcement was made in a public notice dated Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of the NIA’s Corporate Affairs Directorate.
According to the notice, the decision to suspend the strike follows discussions with relevant stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance, and the leadership of the PSWU.
“The Authority appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and assures staff that their concerns remain a priority and will continue to receive the necessary attention,” the statement said.
The strike had disrupted services at NIA offices and registration centers nationwide, affecting access to national identification services. The NIA apologized for the inconvenience caused during the period of industrial action and expressed gratitude to the public for their patience.
All NIA offices and registration centers are expected to resume normal operations on Monday, June 30, 2025. The Authority encouraged the public to take advantage of the resumption to access ID services.
The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient and reliable identification services to the public in accordance with its national responsibilities.
