Police arrest 15 in Ashanti Region galamsey crackdown

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested fifteen individuals in connection with illegal mining activities at Watreso and Preacher Krom, near Manso Adubia.
The arrests were made during a targeted, intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
A cache of weapons and mining-related equipment was retrieved from the scene. Items recovered include two automatic pump-action guns, two Musler 12 firearms, 59 BB cartridges, three AA cartridges, two excavator control boards, a water pumping machine, two power generators, a vulcanising machine, and an Apsonic motorbike. All items have been retained as evidence.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Tahiru Ibrahim, Shaibu Idrissu, Boateng Emmanuel, Jamon Kwaku Samuel, Yaro Patrick, Kofi Boakye, Gubong Mathew, Fatawu Zackari Seidu, Abdul Malik Seidu, Dauda Tahiru, Sampson Grace, Boolangkpuo Freda, Arima Hagar, Kwarteng Vasco and Kwame Adutwum.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and working to dismantle illegal mining networks that undermine national development and endanger natural resources.
