Small-Scale miners gear up to meet GoldBod’s final licensing deadline

The Concerned Small Scale Miners Association has announced that it is on track to meet the June 21 deadline set by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for compliance with the new gold trading license regime.
The association had earlier requested an extension in May 2025 after many of its members were unable to meet the initial May 21 deadline due to delays in securing the required documentation.
In response, GoldBod granted a final grace period ending on June 21, cautioning that no further extensions would be granted.
Speaking to the media, President of the Association, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, indicated that significant progress has been made. He explained that initial delays, particularly in obtaining environmental clearance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), had slowed the licensing process.
Previously, acquiring an EPA certificate could take over a week, making it difficult for miners to meet the initial timeline.
However, the establishment of additional EPA offices, including at the district level, has eased the process. These new offices are working alongside existing structures to speed up the issuance of necessary clearances.
Mr. Peprah added that relevant state institutions are now prioritizing the GoldBod licensing process, accelerating the formalization of small-scale mining operations across the country.
