Gov’t to disburse ¢25m per MMDA in 2025

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that each Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) across the country is expected to receive at least GH¢25 million in 2025 as part of government’s renewed effort to accelerate local development.
Dr. Forson made the announcement during parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. He explained that the allocation forms part of a broader strategy to ensure equitable distribution of national resources and to empower local governments to meet the development needs of their respective communities.
He further revealed that a first-quarter disbursement of GH¢987 million has already been made to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), with 80 percent of the amount going directly to the various assemblies.
“This disbursement represents the government’s commitment to deepening decentralization and ensuring that local authorities are adequately resourced to implement critical infrastructure and social development projects,” Dr. Forson stated.
The Finance Minister emphasized that these funds are expected to support a range of development initiatives, including improvements in health, education, sanitation, roads, and economic empowerment at the local level.
He urged district assemblies to make prudent use of the allocations and ensure transparency and accountability in how the resources are utilized.
Stakeholders in the local governance space have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely intervention that could help bridge development gaps and improve service delivery in underserved areas.
