I couldn’t afford a decent meal — Delay
Media personality and entrepreneur Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has offered a stirring message of hope to Ghanaian youth, urging them to remain resilient in the face of life’s challenges.
In a Facebook post, Delay reflected on her difficult early years, revealing that, as a young woman uncertain of her future, she once experienced homelessness and hunger. She shared how perseverance and faith transformed her journey from hardship to success.
“It feels like just yesterday when I couldn’t afford a decent meal,” she wrote. “Today, the small food business I started—Delay Foods—now has 10 product variants! And we’re just getting started! This was just in 2004.”
Now a household name and a respected figure in Ghana’s media and business circles, Delay recounted how the journey began without external support or privilege. She recalled moments of self-doubt, yet emphasized that determination and a sense of purpose kept her going.
“I had nowhere to live and didn’t know what to do with my life. I’m sitting here right now, wondering what I did right for God to be this merciful to me,” she shared.
Her post concluded with a powerful message to young people: “Do not give up on yourself. Help is coming!”
This is not the first time Delay has spoken about her struggles. In a past interview, she highlighted how, unlike many of her peers in the entertainment industry, she had no major backing at the start of her career. “I fought for the fame I have today, and no one can take that away from me,” she added.
