Mahama sacks NHIA board member, appoints Prof. Yorke

President John Dramani Mahama has removed Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

This comes on the back of concerns that she does not hold a valid medical licence to practise in Ghana

A statement from the Office of the President confirmed her replacement with Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke, a seasoned physician and former Greater Accra Regional Chair of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

Relevant authorities have been directed to expedite the swearing-in of Prof. Yorke to ensure a smooth transition.

While the official statement did not outline the reasons for Ms. Daly’s removal, credible sources point to mounting pressure from health professionals and sections of the public questioning her credentials. Critics argued that her role on the board, given her lack of a valid medical licence, undermined confidence in the NHIA’s leadership.
