ECG Ashanti launches real-time power data system
The Ashanti Sub-Transmission team of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has taken a major step to modernize its operations by launching a real-time data collection platform across its five Bulk Supply Points (BSPs): Anwomaso, Ridge, Konongo, Obuasi, and Dunkwa.
Each BSP is now equipped with tablet devices that capture and transmit data hourly to the System Controller, allowing for real-time summation, analysis, and faster responses to changes in power demand, faults, or irregularities on the grid. This digital upgrade replaces the previous manual system, which was prone to delays and errors.
Operations Manager, Ing Andrews Owusu Peprah, called the move a “game-changer” for system reliability in the region. “The transition to real-time reporting has not only increased our operational efficiency but also allowed us to spot trends and act faster,” he said.
The new platform is expected to improve data accuracy and consistency, enhance system monitoring, enable faster fault detection, and promote greater transparency and accountability.
General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing Peter Kofi Fletcher, emphasized the team’s dedication to service quality. “This forward-thinking approach supports ECG’s broader mission of delivering stable, efficient, and customer-focused power distribution for innovative regional grid management,” he stated.
The Ashanti Sub-Transmission team’s initiative is being praised as a model of innovation within ECG and an important step in modernizing Ghana’s power infrastructure.
