Ghana set to hosts WAFU A&B Boys Championship

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

Ghana will host the maiden edition of the U-20 WAFU A&B Boys Cup in June 2025, bringing together all 16 countries from both West African zones for a historic youth football tournament.

This follows Ghana’s successful organisation of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in April at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Scheduled for June 15 to 30, the tournament will feature Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Liberia, Mauritania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, and Ghana.

Unlike previous editions held separately in WAFU A and B as qualifiers for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, this new format brings all West African nations together in a single tournament aimed at offering more competitive opportunities and enhancing youth development.

Matches will be played at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the grand finale set for the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

The competition is expected to foster stronger regional ties and give scouts and national teams a broader look at emerging talent from across the sub-region.
