Let Passion Drive Your Business – Consultant Advises Young Entrepreneurs

By: Solomon Nartey Tetteh

Business Consultant Emmanuel Adimora has urged young entrepreneurs to allow passion to guide their business decisions. He emphasized that building a successful and sustainable business requires more than just capital or market demand; it also demands a deep personal connection to the work.

Speaking on Business Breakfast on Zed FM, Mr. Adimora highlighted passion as a key factor in maintaining focus, commitment, and resilience, particularly when entrepreneurs face setbacks and tough market conditions. He explained that passion fuels perseverance, which is essential for overcoming the inevitable challenges that come with starting and growing a business.

“Entrepreneurship is not a smooth road. There will be moments of doubt, failure, and financial pressure. Without genuine interest in what you’re doing, it’s easy to give up,” he noted.

Mr. Adimora expressed concern over a growing trend where many young people venture into popular or high-earning industries without considering whether they are truly interested in the work. According to him, this approach often leads to disinterest, lack of dedication, and eventually burnout, as these individuals find it difficult to stay motivated when challenges arise.

He explained that while financial incentives may be attractive in the short term, they are not enough to sustain long-term effort and commitment. Instead, he encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to take the time to reflect on their personal interests, strengths, and values before choosing a business path.

Mr. Adimora further noted that passion not only drives commitment but also fosters innovation and creativity — qualities that are crucial in a competitive business environment. Entrepreneurs who are passionate about their ventures are more likely to invest time in learning, improving their skills, and finding unique ways to serve their customers.

He concluded by advising young people to engage in self-assessment and even seek mentorship or career guidance before launching a business.
“Knowing yourself and what you truly care about can make all the difference in your entrepreneurial journey,” he said. The call by Mr. Adimora comes at a time when youth unemployment remains a pressing issue in Ghana, pushing many young people into entrepreneurship. As more youth consider starting their own businesses, his advice serves as a timely reminder that passion, not just profit, should be the foundation of any venture.
