Black Sherif Earns First BET Awards Nomination, Flies Ghana’s Flag High
Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has received a nomination in the prestigious Best International Act category at the 2025 BET Awards, making him the sole Ghanaian contender this year.
The nomination comes on the heels of the release of his critically acclaimed second studio album, Iron Boy, and a successful North American tour. Currently, the award-winning artist is thrilling fans across Europe, with recent performances in cities such as Antwerp, Belgium.
Born Mohammed Ismail Sharif, Black Sherif is set to compete against a dynamic group of global artists including Nigeria’s Ayra Starr and Rema, South Africa’s Tyla, Brazil’s Any Gabrielly and MC Luanna, France’s Joé Dwet Filé and SDM, the UK’s Bashy and Ezra Collective, and Uncle Waffles from Eswatini.
This marks Black Sherif’s first nomination at the main BET Awards, following a previous nod at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. His latest recognition is particularly significant as he becomes the first Ghanaian artist to be nominated in this category since its rebranding in 2018.
The 2025 BET Awards will mark the 25th anniversary of the iconic event and will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
