Data Protection expert urges AI adoption to strengthen cybersecurity

Certified Data Protection Trainer, Richard Amo-Hene, is urging government and corporate institutions in Ghana to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a key tool in strengthening cybersecurity systems.
Speaking on the Zed Tech Show on Zed 101.9 FM, Mr. Amo-Hene pointed to a global surge in cyber-attacks, with over 2,200 incidents recorded daily and a 30% increase in frequency the highest in two years. He warned that traditional human-led cybersecurity systems are too slow to detect and respond to threats in real time.
“AI systems can reason, analyze, and respond to cyber threats much faster than any human team could,” he explained. “They behave like human decision-makers, but with greater speed and consistency. That’s what makes them essential.”
Mr. Amo-Hene emphasized that cyber threats often follow patterns, and AI can be trained to recognize those patterns quickly and act before significant damage occurs. He added that relying solely on human intervention is not scalable in a country like Ghana, where monitoring every threat manually is difficult.
“Imagine if it takes just 20 seconds for an attack to cripple a system,” he said. “By the time a technician reacts, the damage is done. That’s why we need AI, a system that can detect and act instantly, like a human, but faster.” He concluded by calling on public and private institutions to invest in AI-powered cybersecurity tools as a matter of urgency, stressing that the threat landscape continues to evolve and Ghana must keep up to protect its digital infrastructure.
