Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren shares reason for Senegal defeat
Ghana’s Black Queens head coach Kims Lars Bjorkegren has attributed his side’s 1-0 defeat to Senegal on Monday to the numerous changes made to the starting lineup.
The match, a second friendly encounter during the international break, ended in disappointment for Ghana as the Teranga Lionesses scored a late winner to seal victory in Thies.
The Swede made five changes to his starting lineup, including starts for Nina Norshie, Justice Tweneboah, Ernestina Abambila, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, and Princella Adubea.
The result handed Bjorkegren his second defeat in just three matches since taking charge of the team.
Speaking after the game, Bjorkegren said: “We changed half of the team between those two games.
Of course, many players hadn’t played together before, so of course when you put almost a new starting eleven together, that can be a bit difficult because football is about natural relations.
“We came in to play. In the end, it was a close game, not so many chances for either team. Normally it’s a 0-0 game, but they scored and there is nothing I can do about it.”
The two friendlies form part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
