Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum laments over players fitness despite Legon Cities win

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum has claimed his side lacked match fitness despite returning to Ghana Premier League action with a 2-0 win over Legon Cities on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors had not played a competitive match since February 2 following the tragic death of dedicated fan Francis Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley, during their fixture against Nsoatreman.
Kotoko opted out of the MTN FA Cup round of 16 to mourn their supporter, only resuming football activities after his burial.
Goals from Patrick Asiedu and a late Kwame Opoku strike secured victory for Kotoko, taking them to the top of the league table. However, Ogum admitted that his players are still struggling with fitness and
sharpness.
“I think we have to try and intensify our training,” Ogum said. “They are rusty, and when players return, especially after such emotional pain, you don’t push them immediately. It has to be a gradual process” low to medium to high intensity. We are assessing their condition and designing training programs to suit them.”
Kotoko will now shift focus to their outstanding FA Cup round of 16 clash against Sekondi Eleven Wise before traveling to face defending champions Samartex next weekend.
