GHAPROHA urges utility cost regulation at annual NEC meeting

The Ghana Progressives Hotels Association (GHAPROHA) has called for urgent action to address the rising cost of utilities, which it identifies as a significant challenge to the survival of the hospitality sector.
Speaking at the association’s annual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Mr. Emmanuel Geadda Asando, National President of GHAPROHA, highlighted the critical role electricity and water supply play in sustaining hotels and other hospitality businesses. He stressed that the constant hikes in the cost of these essential services were hampering the industry’s growth and called on the Public Utility and Regulatory Committee (PURC) to intervene.
“Electricity and water supply remain vital commodities for our operations, and the rising costs are a serious burden on our businesses. We appeal to the PURC to address these issues to support the sector’s sustainability,” Mr. Asando stated.
The NEC meeting also provided an opportunity for GHAPROHA to affirm its commitment to supporting the government’s 24-hour economy policy. Mr. Asando expressed the association’s readiness to align with this initiative, emphasizing its potential to boost growth in the hospitality sector and the broader tourism industry.
Participants reflected on the association’s achievements, discussed strategies to address industry challenges, and explored ways to strengthen collaboration and innovation. The event also facilitated networking among members, fostering stronger unity within the hospitality community. With the hospitality sector facing economic uncertainties, GHAPROHA reiterated the importance of unity, collaboration, and proactive engagement with stakeholders to ensure its resilience and long-term growth.
