Nkrumah Memorial Park unique treasure for Africans and the world – Diagana

THE World Bank Vice-President for Africa West and Central, Mr. Ousmane Diagana, has commended the recently expanded Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, describing it as a landmark of historical, cultural, and educational significance.
His remarks come in the wake of a similar visit earlier this year by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Madam Kristalina Georgieva, who also emphasized the park’s importance as a symbol of African unity and progress.
Diagana praises transformation and global significance
During his visit to the renovated site, supported by the World Bank, Mr. Diagana highlighted the institution’s role in enhancing a place he described as “a unique treasure for Africans and the world.”
“It has been really a pleasure, a privilege, and an honor to visit the museum of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. I am very delighted to have the World Bank actually associated with the expansion and enhancement of this museum, which is a unique place for Africans, but beyond Africans, for the entire world to come here to learn from the life, accomplishments, and legacy of this great leader,” he remarked.
Mr. Diagana also emphasized the enduring impact of Dr. Nkrumah’s vision and ideology, noting their continued inspiration for generations of Africans. He hinted at returning to the park with his family, underscoring its importance as a destination of both education and inspiration.
Georgieva reflects on Africa’s role in global Prosperity
Similarly, during her visit to the facility in March 2024, Madam Georgieva highlighted Africa’s pivotal role in global prosperity, stating, “There is no prosperous world without a prosperous Africa.”
Reflecting on the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, she underscored his visionary leadership and commitment to Ghana’s and Africa’s progress. Despite significant challenges, she praised his determination to unify Africa and empower its people.
“I am very impressed with the role he played to unify Africa, and I am so proud that today Africans can say that our father was right,” Madam Georgieva said.
While touring the memorial park, she paid her respects to Dr. Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah, whose mortal remains rest in the mausoleum. The facility, adorned with Italian marble and the symbolic black star of unity, serves as a tribute to Ghana’s independence and Dr. Nkrumah’s enduring legacy.
A shared commitment to African development
Both visits underscore the shared commitment of global institutions like the World Bank and IMF to support Africa’s development. While Mr. Diagana’s visit included discussions on infrastructure initiatives such as the Kumasi Urban Mobility Accessibility Project (KUMAP), Madam Georgieva’s visit highlighted the broader vision of economic empowerment and leadership. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park continues to stand as a beacon of African heritage, celebrating the leadership and unity that have shaped the continent’s journey toward progress and prosperity.
