The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates. The announcement, made on Monday, December 30, 2024, came with a strong warning against fraudsters offering fake result upgrades.
WAEC urged candidates and stakeholders to ignore such scams, emphasizing that results cannot be altered. The council also encouraged the public to report suspicious activities while reminding candidates to access their results directly via the official website, www.waecgh.com.
Key Statistics
In 2024, 460,611 candidates from 1,003 schools participated in the examinations, with 212,954 males and 247,657 females representing a 2.66% increase from the 2023 entry figure of 448,674. However, 4,609 candidates (1.0%) were absent from the examinations.
Malpractice and Sanctions
WAEC reported several cases of examination malpractice and the corresponding sanctions:
- 4,108 candidates had their subject results canceled for using unauthorized materials during the exams.
- 483 candidates faced cancellation of their entire results for possession of mobile phones in the examination hall.
- 781 subject results were withheld, pending investigations into suspected malpractice.
The council reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the WASSCE, assuring the public of its robust measures to ensure fairness and transparency.
