Tech in Ghana confab: Kumasi set to host 2025 edition

Story: Abdulai SAAKA, Accra

The Tech in Ghana Conference 2024, held in Accra, brought together some of the most influential voices in the technology industry to discuss the evolution of tech innovation and its role in traditional sectors.

The event was a testament to Ghana’s commitment to embracing technology as a driver for development. One of the standout moments of the conference was the announcement that the 2025 edition will move to Kumasi, marking a significant shift in focus toward regional development in the tech ecosystem.

Akosua Annobil, founder of the Tech in Ghana platform, revealed that after its London event, the conference will take place in Kumasi next year. She emphasized the importance of expanding beyond Accra, stating, “Accra has always been our home base, but Ghana is more than Accra. Kumasi is rising, and we’re thrilled to take Tech in Ghana to the Ashanti Region, showcasing the region’s immense potential.”

Her announcement was met with applause from participants who acknowledged the strategic importance of Kumasi in decentralizing technological growth in Ghana.

Lawyer Evans Amoah Nyamekye, Special Advisor to the Ashanti Investment Fund, took the stage to highlight Kumasi’s readiness to become a key player in Ghana’s technology landscape. He introduced the Ashanti Investment Trust, a project aimed at commercializing innovations and fostering development in the Ashanti Region. Nyamekye spoke passionately about Kumasi’s potential, referencing plans for the new Asante City, a sprawling development of over 45,000 acres intended to be a hub for manufacturing, technology, and resource management. “Why Kumasi?” he asked rhetorically. “Turn the question around. Why not Kumasi?” His statement drew widespread support and reaffirmed the need to diversify development efforts across the country.

Nyamekye also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Akosua Annobil, describing her as a paragon of excellence, consistency, and humility. His heartfelt words, accompanied by a standing ovation, underscored the high regard in which she is held within the tech and innovation community.

As the event wrapped up, the focus was clear: Ghana’s technological future depends on inclusivity and regional equity. The decision to hold the 2025 edition in Kumasi reflects a broader strategy to ensure all parts of the country benefit from technological advancements. Evans Amoah Nyamekye captured the spirit of the conference when he urged participants to embrace this new chapter, stating, “Let’s make Ghana great by embracing every part of Ghana to make it great.”
