Local players to get invite for Ghana-Angola and Niger AFCON qualifiers

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

As Ghana gears up for its crucial final two matches in Group F of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, reports indicate that several local players are poised to receive call-ups to the Black Stars.

The senior national team will assemble next week as they prepare to face Angola and Niger in back-to-back fixtures.

The current situation in Group F is concerning for the Black Stars, who find themselves on the brink of missing out on qualification for next year’s AFCON tournament in Morocco. After four matches, the team has managed only two points, sitting third in the group with two losses and two draws.

As reality sets in, many fans and analysts have begun to accept that the national team may struggle to qualify for the continental showcase.

In light of these challenges, there is a growing chorus of voices calling for head coach Otto Addo to provide opportunities for more local talent to prove their worth.

Last month, Addo included two local players in his squad: goalkeeper Frederick Asare and defender Isaac Afful. Sources suggest that the coach may extend invites to as many as five local players for the upcoming international break, aiming to inject new energy and creativity into the squad.

Coach Otto Addo is expected to officially announce his 25-man squad for the matches against Angola and Niger on Friday, November 8.

With the pressure mounting and a sense of urgency to secure positive results, all eyes will be on the squad selection and how these local players can contribute to the team’s aspirations. The upcoming games represent a critical moment for Ghana, as they seek to revive their hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025.
