Emmanuel Agyemang Badu laments over Ghana’s football slump

Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has brutally criticised the managers of the senior national team and players of the Black Stars after their defeat to Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana lost 2-0 to Sudan in Libya, a result that leaves Black Stars on the verge of failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The four-time African champions last failed to make an appearance at an AFCON tournament in 2004.
Speaking to Onua Sports, Agyemang-Badu highlighted the lack of progress across all levels, from the national team to the youth ranks and women’s squads.
“The national team is in a ditch; we don’t need to massage anything anymore,” he lamented. “I am tired, personally, I am tired. At this point, we have to be humble and go back. Because there is nothing going on from the local league to all the youth and women’s teams.”
He expressed frustration over the Black Stars’ poor performance, pointing to their record of only two wins in the last 12 matches.
Agyemang-Badu questioned the fundamental skills on display, describing issues with basics like ball control and decision-making.
“Even controlling a ball is hard,” he said. He also criticized the lack of teamwork, passion, and the inability to capitalise on set pieces despite numerous opportunities.
In his view, it’s time for Ghanaian football to return to the basics and adopt a fresh approach, even if it means taking a hiatus from major tournaments to regroup and rebuild.
