Ghana drops in latest FIFA rankings

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

The Black Stars have dropped in September’s FIFA Coca-Cola rankings following a poor run of results in the month.

Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium and were held to a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. As a result, Ghana currently sits in third place in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In September’s rankings, Ghana has fallen from 64th to 70th globally. Several countries, including Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Cape Verde, and Burkina Faso, have surpassed Ghana in the standings.

The West African giants also slipped two positions in the continental rankings, now ranked 14th, with Burkina Faso and Cape Verde moving ahead of them.

In the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings, Morocco has taken the top spot, followed by Senegal in second place, while Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, and Tunisia round out the top five.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars will regroup in October for their third and fourth matches against Sudan in the qualifiers.
