Asantehene’s visit to Fetu Afahye festival to boost cultural exchange, national unity

Residents of Cape Coast are eagerly anticipating the visit of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to this year’s Fetu Afahye Festival, marking the 60th anniversary of the event. The presence of the Asantehene, along with his delegation of over 200 people, is expected to make the celebration on Saturday, September 7, particularly memorable.

Many residents expressed their excitement to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), believing that the visit of the revered king will enhance the festival’s splendor and highlight the richness of Ghanaian culture. They also see it as an opportunity to boost local businesses, promote cultural diversity, and strengthen national unity.

Residents emphasized the importance of respecting and learning from each other’s cultures to foster national cohesion. They stressed that culture plays a crucial role in human progress and development, underscoring its significance in society.

Ms. Philomena Dankwa, owner of Saltaste Enterprise, shared her excitement about the visit, noting that it would be her first time seeing the Asantehene. She appealed to him to use his influential position to establish a project in Cape Coast that would benefit the local youth.

Mr. Joel Essoun, another resident, encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity presented by the visit and maximize its benefits. He urged citizens to embrace the patriotic spirit of the Asantes and contribute to the community’s development. Mr. Suleman Abdullai Ofori, also a resident, called on the Asantehene to provide guidance for Cape Coast in undertaking development projects similar to those in his kingdom, such as the Otumfuo Educational Fund, which has been instrumental in supporting youth education.
