Arts and Beats show: House of Safori partners Viana Negasi
THE House of Safori, a renowned creative hub led by artist and jazz enthusiast Yaw Safori, has partnered with emerging Afrobeat artist Viana Negasi to organize the Arts and Beats show in Accra.
This event aims to merge the worlds of visual art and music, offering attendees a unique cultural experience.
Yaw Safori, reflecting on his journey in the art world, shared his passion for blending art with other forms of expression, particularly music. For over 27 years, Safori has been a self-taught artist, creating works that resonate with audiences both in Ghana and internationally.
His dedication to his craft led him to establish his gallery and studio, where he now mentors aspiring artists and provides a platform for creative expression.
The Arts and Beats show is a testament to Safori’s commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation in the arts. He emphasized that the event was a natural fit for his vision, as it combines two of his greatest passions: art and music.
Safori expressed his admiration for Viana Negasi, noting her drive and talent as a young artist in Ghana’s vibrant music scene. “When they approached us, I felt this was the right thing to do,” he said, adding that supporting emerging talents like Negasi is essential for the growth of the creative industry.
Nadia Owusu-Bofa, the organizer of the event, shed light on the inspiration behind the Arts and Beats show. She highlighted Viana Negasi’s deep appreciation for art, which played a pivotal role in conceptualizing the event.
“Viana loves music and art,” Nadia explained. “We’ve had many experiences where I saw her light up at the sight of beautiful artwork. This event was her idea, and I just helped with the execution,” she added.
Nadia also shared insights into Viana’s career, noting her journey from working as a creative executive at Links Entertainment to becoming a TV presenter before fully embracing her passion for music. This year marks her second year in music, and the Arts and Beats show is her second major event.
The collaboration with Yaw Safori and the House of Safori has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. “Safori is an amazing man,” Nadia remarked. “He welcomed us with open arms and offered us the space to host this event. Despite being a jazz fanatic, he has fully embraced Afrobeat, which speaks to his love for all forms of art and music”. The Arts and Beats show promises to be a unique fusion of visual and auditory experiences, where attendees can enjoy Viana Negasi’s soulful performances while immersing themselves in the rich artistic creations of Yaw Safori. This event marks the first edition of what is expected to be an ongoing series that celebrates the intersection of art and music in Ghana.
