Sangu Delle Foundation empowers women in Nandom with tools and scholarships

From Mohammed ABDULAI, Nandom – Upper West Region

Maalu Naa Dr. Sangu Delle, founder of the Sangu Delle Foundation, has organized a women empowerment summit in Nandom in the Upper West Region, where he provided crucial support to local women through the donation of working tools. The foundation, headquartered in Nandom, presented 10 sewing machines and 10 hairdryers to various seamstresses and hairdressers across four zones in the Nandom Constituency.

This initiative is part of a pilot project that will eventually donate 150 hairdryers, 50 sewing machines, and 50 weaving equipment to local weavers.

Dr. Sangu Delle used the occasion to announce the various scholarship programs under the Sangu Delle Foundation, which operates on three pillars: Health, Education, and Economic Empowerment.

The foundation offers the Cardinal Dery Scholarship, Patrick Awuah School Grant, and Francis Kupati Teachers Prize, all designed to support students in pursuing higher education and to equip schools with necessary learning materials for academic excellence.

“With the Patrick Awuah School Grant, schools within the municipality can apply for support to help them buy textbooks, computers, and other essential teaching and learning materials,” Dr. Delle explained.

“The Francis Kupati Teachers Prize is meant for deserving teachers who have positively impacted student performance over three years. These teachers will receive a cash prize of GH¢10,000, while the Cardinal Dery Scholarship supports young individuals in attaining higher education.”

In addition to the education initiatives, the Sangu Delle Foundation plans to launch the Nandom Healthcare Fund and the Mental Health Grant.

“Mental health has a lot of stigmas, and we don’t talk about it enough,” Dr. Delle stated.

“Depression, anxiety, and alcoholism are significant problems, but we are not equipped to handle such issues adequately. The Mental Health Grants will support organizations focused on mental health to enhance awareness and interventions.”

Dr. Delle expressed concern over the poor conditions at St. Theresa’s Hospital in Nandom, citing the lack of working monitors in the emergency room and inadequate beds, forcing women to sleep on the floor.

“It’s not just a matter of life and death but the dignity of our people,” he said. The foundation plans to provide equipment and renovate health facilities across the Nandom Municipality to improve healthcare delivery.

The foundation’s Economic Empowerment program aims to empower women economically, providing them with the means to earn an income.

“There is no dignity in giving handouts,” Dr. Delle emphasized. “We want our people to be economically empowered, focusing heavily on women and youth.”

The Admiral Dzang Agricultural Grants Programme, set to launch soon, will provide grants to farmers for innovative agricultural ventures.

Additionally, the Technology and Entrepreneurs Grant Programme will invest in developing software developers and tech entrepreneurs in Nandom, promoting the creation of technology companies and e-commerce tools to help women market their products more broadly.

The Sangu Delle Foundation is also partnering with the Nandom Rural Bank to provide loans to women and youth entrepreneurs, covering a significant portion of the interest rate to mitigate the impact of high interest rates in the country.

“To help combat depression, we are stepping in to assist women and youth entrepreneurs by providing capital and helping them pay their interest,” Dr. Delle explained.

Founded in 2022 by Maalu Naa Dr. Sangu Delle, a Pan-African entrepreneur and investor, the Sangu Delle Foundation continues to make significant strides in supporting the people of Nandom through health, education, and economic empowerment initiatives.

Dr. Delle is also the Managing Director of African Health Holdings and Chairman of Golden Palm Investments Corporation.
