NDC flagbearer John Mahama reveals plans to upgrade sporting facilities

Former Ghana President, John Dramani Mahama, has promised that his next government will prioritize the improvement of sports infrastructure in the country.
The National Democratic Congress flagbearer spoke on a wide range of issues during his meeting with the press in Accra on Sunday, July 8, 2024.
Part of his plans if elected into power in December’s election is to ensure Ghana has some of the best sports facilities.
In recent years, there has been a growing concern over the nature of pitches and the deplorable state of the various stadia in the country.
Before Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, Black Stars captain Thomas Partey also raised the issue of players wanting a better playing field.
“I will not stand here and promise that we will build a new stadium, but I have said that under the Big Push, we intend to spend a certain amount of money over five years on providing good infrastructure including roads, bridges, agro-industrial parks, and so on and so forth, that could include sports facilities,” he said.
“As part of the 24-hour economy, sports can play a very good part, and we will invest in sports facilities and help the private sector engage in sports facilities to provide service at night so our people can enjoy that service,” he added.
The ex-president will lead the NDC to the general election on December 7, 2024.
