Ghana’s 4x100m men’s relay team qualify to compete at Olympic Games

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team secured their ticket to the Paris Olympic Games with an outstanding performance on Day 2 of the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas.

The quartet comprising Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati, and Joseph Paul Amoah took to the track, aiming to bounce back from a disappointing performance on the previous day.

Competing in Heat 2 at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, the Ghanaian team clocked a time of 38.29 seconds, a season-best performance, securing their spot at the Summer Games.

Joseph Paul Amoah delivered the fastest run of 9.12 seconds, ensuring Ghana finished as winners of the Round 2 heat.

Nigeria also secured a place at the Games, finishing 2nd behind Ghana with a time of 38.57 seconds.

In other heats, South Africa (38.08) and Liberia (38.65) joined Ghana and Nigeria as African qualifiers for the 33rd Olympic Games.

USA emerged as the top performers in both the men’s and women’s 4×100 finals, having already secured their tickets to the Games on Day 1.

Following their outstanding performance in the heats, world champion Noah Lyles led the Americans to Gold in 37.40 seconds, with Canada and Italy claiming silver and bronze, respectively.

Amoah shared his thoughts on the enduring rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria in the relay event.

“It’s always amazing. They are our brothers, and whenever anything we do on the track is done, we have that rivalry but when it’s done, we all come together,” he told Joy Sports.

“We’re happy to get the win, and whatever happened yesterday, we needed to put it behind us, come out here today, and execute the race, and we knew we were going to win.
