Energy Minister Strengthens Ties with ACBF to Boost Africa’s Capacity Building

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has underscored the importance of deepening collaboration with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) to advance Africa’s institutional and human development.

Dr Jinapor shared the update on Wednesday, January 31, after meeting with officials of the ACBF. Writing on his social media platforms, he described the Foundation as a specialised agency of the African Union with more than 40 member countries, noting its pivotal role in strengthening policy, institutional, and human capacities across the continent.

The Minister explained that discussions with the ACBF focused on key areas of mutual interest, including training and capacity development, policy formulation, access to electricity, and the broader energy transition agenda. He stressed that these areas are critical to Africa’s sustainable growth and to ensuring that countries are equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

“Our discussions focused on opportunities for mutual collaboration and how we can work together to advance development across the continent,” Dr Jinapor said, highlighting the shared vision between Ghana and the ACBF.

He also drew attention to the African School of Regulation (ASR), describing it as a strategic platform for enhancing regulatory capacity. According to him, the ASR plays a vital role in supporting evidence-based policymaking and advancing sustainable development across Africa. By strengthening regulatory frameworks, the school helps ensure that reforms in energy and other sectors are both effective and inclusive.

Dr Jinapor emphasised that partnerships such as the one with the ACBF are essential for Africa’s transformation agenda. He noted that capacity building is not only about training individuals but also about equipping institutions to deliver on their mandates and shaping policies that respond to the continent’s unique challenges.

Concluding his remarks, the Minister expressed optimism about the future of the collaboration. “I look forward to strengthening this partnership in support of Africa’s development and transformation agenda,” he said, underscoring the role of collective initiatives in achieving sustainable progress.

The meeting reflects Ghana’s broader commitment to regional cooperation and its recognition that Africa’s growth depends on strong institutions, skilled human capital, and effective policies. By working closely with the ACBF, Ghana aims to contribute to building a resilient and prosperous continent.
