New GCX board Inaugurated to deepen market access for farmers

The Government has inaugurated a new Governing Board for the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX), tasking members with strengthening the Exchange’s ability to connect farmers directly with both local and international markets.

Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko-Ampem, who performed the inauguration, called on the board to expand the variety of commodities traded on the GCX platform.

He emphasised that the board’s mandate must be anchored in principles of good governance, transparency and efficiency.

“You have a critical role in ensuring our farmers get fair value for their produce while linking Ghana more competitively to global markets. Your leadership must position the GCX as a driver of agricultural transformation,” the Deputy Minister stated.

Board Chairperson, Nana Boadi Amponim Obadade III, pledged the board’s commitment to improving the Exchange’s operational efficiency and broadening its impact across the agricultural value chain.

The seven-member board comprises the following: Nana Boadi Amponim Obadade III, Chairperson; Evelyn Abaka, Chief Executive Officer; Abena Buachiwaa Brigidi, Member; Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, MP, Member; Anthony Gyampo, Member;  Bismark Tawiah Boateng, Member and Joseph Kwashie Gidisu, Member

Established in 2018, the Ghana Commodity Exchange serves as a trading platform designed to connect farmers, traders and buyers, ensuring transparency n commodity pricing while improving market access.
