Alidu Seidu hails growing Ghanaian influence in
France’s top tierRennes star Alidu Seidu has praised the increasing presence of Ghanaian players in France’s Ligue 1, describing it as a source of pride and a testament to the country’s footballing quality.
Currently on the books of Rennes, Seidu is among a growing number of Ghana internationals plying their trade in the French top flight. The defender recently returned to action after being sidelined for nearly a year due to an ACL injury.
The list of Ghanaian players in Ligue 1 includes Gideon Mensah (Auxerre), Salis Abdul Samed (Nice), Francis Abu (Toulouse), Kojo Peprah Oppong (Nice), Terry Yegbe (Metz), Ibrahim Osman (Auxerre), Elisha Owusu (Auxerre), Ernest Nuamah (Lyon), Mohammed Salisu (Monaco) and Nathaniel Adjei (Lorient).
“This is very good for us because Ligue 1 is one of the biggest leagues in the world. Seeing more Ghanaians here makes me proud. It shows we have the quality to compete at the highest level,” Seidu said in an interview with Flashscore.
The defender also spared a thought for compatriot Ernest Nuamah, who is still recovering from an ACL injury.
“I wish him well. He’s a big talent, and we all look forward to seeing him back on the pitch soon,” he added.
With Ghana’s contingent continuing to grow in France, Seidu believes the Black Stars can only benefit from players competing regularly at such a high level.
