IN a bold step towards ensuring safer roads and accident-free celebrations this festive season, Zonda Tec Ghana, a leading automobile firm, organized a one-day free road safety training for drivers at its Kumasi branch on November 30, 2024.
The event, themed ‘Responsible Driving, A Tool for Accident-Free Christmas,’ brought together key stakeholders in road safety to equip drivers with essential knowledge and skills.
The training, conducted in partnership with the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Red Cross, National Road Safety Authority, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), provided practical insights into responsible driving, fire safety, and first aid.
The event exemplifies how corporate responsibility and collaborative efforts between public and private sectors can transform road safety practices and pave the way for accident-free holidays.
Safety as a Top Priority
Speaking at the event, Zonda Tec Ghana’s Human Resource Manager, Mr. Daniel Nseboah Amoah, underscored the company’s commitment to road safety beyond their core business of selling trucks.
“At Zonda Tec, safety is our top priority — not merely selling trucks to the public. Since 2020, we have provided training to more than 5,000 drivers in Accra and Kumasi. Our goal is to expand these efforts to other regions across the country and the sub-region, ensuring the safety of our customers,” he emphasized.
The Reality of Road Accidents in Ghana
Chief Inspector Boampong from the Ghana Police Service shed light on the troubling rise in road traffic fatalities. “This year, from January to October, we have recorded 2,038 fatalities, an increase from the 1,848 reported during the same period in 2023.
“Of these, the Ashanti Region accounted for 524 deaths, representing 25% of the national total. This underscores the importance of our participation in events like these, aimed at educating drivers to help reduce accidents,” he stated.
Preventive Fire Safety Measures Highlighted
As the harmattan season approaches, Madam Doreen Sasu, Ejisu Municipal Fire Commander from the Ghana National Fire Service, advised attendees on fire safety.
“Exercise caution with flammable materials and report any fire incidents promptly. Prevention is key, especially during this dry season,” she urged.
Community Gratitude and Advocacy
Nana Akosua Serwaa, Queen Mother of the Tipper Trucks Association and Nkosuo Hemaa of the Ashanti Region, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Zonda Tec Ghana for their proactive approach to promoting road safety.
“This initiative is a game-changer for our drivers. As Queen Mother of the association, I encourage all drivers to take part in such programs to gain fresh perspectives on driving and safety,” she said.
A Vision for Safer Roads
Zonda Tec Ghana’s ongoing dedication to road safety resonates with their long-term vision of reducing road accidents and ensuring a safer transport ecosystem for all Ghanaians.
As the Christmas season approaches, this timely intervention is expected to have a lasting impact on the driving habits of participants, ultimately saving lives.
With over 5,000 drivers trained since 2020, Zonda Tec Ghana continues to lead the charge in fostering responsible driving and safety awareness across the nation. This program is a testament to their unwavering commitment to their customers and the broader community. At the end of the training, participants received certificates to recognize their commitment to safer driving practices.
