Ministry of Health Opens Admissions for Specialized Nursing Programmes
The Ministry of Health has officially opened admissions for six post-basic specialized nursing programmes, providing nurses across Ghana with an opportunity to advance their skills and strengthen the nation’s healthcare system.
Applications are open from March 3 to March 26, 2026, through the Ministry’s online portal at https://register.healthtraining.gov.gh.
This initiative is linked to the government’s Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as MahamaCares, and the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme. The Ministry says the expansion of specialized nursing training is a key step in improving healthcare delivery, addressing critical service gaps, and supporting national initiatives aimed at boosting access and quality of care.
The six areas of specialization are Critical Care Nursing, Emergency Nursing, Cardiology Nursing, Nephrology Nursing, Endocrinology Nursing, and Oncology Nursing. Training will take place at five top health training institutions across Korle Bu, Kumasi, and Tamale, including the Peri-Operative and Critical Care School at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Nursing and Midwifery Training College campuses in Korle Bu, Kumasi, and Tamale, and the Ear, Nose, and Throat School in Kumasi.
Applicants must hold a diploma in Registered General Nursing, Midwifery, or Registered Mental Health Nursing, have completed at least one year of rotation, internship, or national service, and possess a minimum of two years of relevant work experience. They must be under 40 years of age, medically fit, and hold a valid PIN from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
The application process requires a fee of GH¢150. After payment, applicants receive a voucher with a unique PIN and serial number to track their submission. They must also upload scanned copies of their academic and professional certificates, as well as their residential and Ghana Post digital addresses.
The programmes will run for four semesters, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree awarded by the University of Cape Coast. Graduates will earn associate membership in the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives and obtain licensure from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. Admitted applicants will be granted study leave, allowing them to complete their studies and return to the workforce as highly skilled professionals ready to deliver specialized care across the country.
