Religious leaders must champion tolerance, peace-Naa Torshie

Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has called on religious leaders to champion the cause for tolerance and peace as the December polls approach.

She emphasized the importance of ethical conduct and responsibility in both religious and civic spheres.

She was speaking at the 61st Annual Refresher Course, Retreat, and Business Session of the Ghana Baptist Convention Ministers Conference, under the theme “Ministerial Ethics, Accountability, and Responsibility in the 21st Century Church.

Naa Torshie stressed the significance of fostering an environment where political and religious tolerance is celebrated, noting that Ghana’s diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a weakness

She highlighted the need for leaders to ensure that every voice is heard and respected, regardless of its pitch.

Furthermore, she urged religious leaders to use their influence responsibly by promoting peace and stability in the nation. Quoting Proverbs 11:3, she emphasized the importance of integrity in guiding actions and decisions.

Naa Torshie underscored the role of ministers of the gospel as custodians of faith and community, stating that their influence extends beyond the pulpit and shapes societal values.

She called on them to uphold principles of ethics, accountability, and responsibility, which are vital for the integrity and credibility of their ministries.

Accountability, transparency, and responsibility were highlighted as key principles that religious leaders should adhere to, reminding them of their ultimate accountability to a higher authority.

Naa Torshie urged ministers of the gospel to use their talents and platforms for the enrichment and upliftment of those around them, emphasizing that their impact should be measured by the positive changes they inspire in the lives of others rather than by accolades.

The call comes at a critical time as Ghana prepares for the upcoming elections, with religious leaders playing a crucial role in promoting peace and harmony during this period of heightened political activity.
