Dr. Bawumia concludes flagbearer campaign with Bolga Rally

Frontrunner in the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, brought his nationwide campaign to a triumphant close with a rally held in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolga.

The rally, attended by thousands of party delegates and leaders from various regions, marked the culmination of an exhaustive campaign that saw Dr. Bawumia engage with party delegates in all 16 regions of Ghana, laying out his vision for the party and the future government.
Strengthening party-government relations
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd alongside his spouse, Hajia Samira Bawumia, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to the NPP and recalled his significant contributions to the party’s growth over the years.
He also highlighted the sacrifices he has made in the service of the party.
One of the key proposals outlined during the rally was his plan to deepen Party-Government relations.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his intention to allocate a significant proportion of presidential appointments directly to constituencies and regions.
He revealed that each constituency would receive a minimum of 10 appointments, while every region would be allocated 20.
Additionally, non-MP appointees would be assigned as “god-mothers” and “god-fathers” to constituencies, ensuring active engagement at the grassroots level.
A dedicated Welfare Office would be established to compile data and manage the needs of party members.
“With these and some other measures, we will have a stronger and more united party than before,” Dr. Bawumia assured the crowd.
A call for unity and a focus on the real “enemy”
Dr. Bawumia urged the delegates to disregard any “lies and propaganda” being circulated by his opponents both within and outside the party.
He expressed his belief that the NPP, with him as the candidate, is uniquely positioned to break the perceived “eight-year cycle” in Ghanaian politics.
He firmly asserted that electing him as the party’s flagbearer would be the best decision at this crucial juncture in the party’s history.
Among the four aspirants vying for the flagbearer position, Dr. Bawumia presented his track record as the candidate with the most election victories, having secured two consecutive wins.
He also highlighted his extensive governance experience, having served as Vice-President for two terms.
He stressed his ability to unite the various factions within the party and promote peace and unity between the country’s two main religions.
In a bold declaration, Dr. Bawumia stated, “To crown it all, I am the one the NDC fears the most, and with good reason. They know with me as the candidate, they will not have a campaign message.”
He called for unity among party members, emphasizing that the flagbearer contest was an internal family matter and that the “real enemy” awaited in the general elections.
Dr. Bawumia encouraged party members to come together, close ranks, forgive each other, and prepare for the challenges of the upcoming 2024 elections.
He expressed his gratitude to his Campaign Team, led by Fred Oware, party stalwarts who joined him on his nationwide journey, and all those who contributed in various ways to the success of his campaign.
