Story By: Rebecca Okine

Access Bank Ghana has officially launched its new initiative, Fa Ketewa Bɛgye Kɛseɛ promo, aimed at fostering a culture of saving among Ghanaians, particularly the youth.

The promotion, unveiled at Access Bank’s head office in Accra on Friday March 28, 2025, is open to both new and existing customers. It encourages participants to make a minimum deposit of 250 cedis, offering them an opportunity to save while earning rewards. This initiative, which kicks off in April 2025, will run for six months and is specifically targeted at young people, including students.

Speaking at the launch, Executive Director of Retail and Digital Banking at Access Bank Ghana, Pearl Nkrumah stressed the importance of promoting savings habits among young people. She noted that the Fa Ketewa Bɛgye Kɛseɛ promo not only aims to encourage financial discipline, but also seeks to instill an understanding of the importance of saving for the future.

“We want to encourage the youth to develop the habit of saving, which is essential for long-term financial independence,” Mrs. Nkrumah explained.

NLA’s Role in Ensuring Fairness

Addressing the media after the launch, Marketing Manager at the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Judith Kormle urged businesses and organizations to involve the NLA when running promotions that include chance, selection, or draws. She explained that businesses must seek regulatory approval from the NLA before conducting such initiatives.

“Institutions need to come for regulatory approval from the NLA,” Mrs. Kormle said. This means bringing in your promotion details and how you intend to run it so we can assess the financial implications and give you the go-ahead,” Mrs. Kormle explained.

Mrs. Kormle emphasized that the NLA plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity of such promotions. The NLA oversees the activities closely, monitors the data, and guarantees that the entire process is transparent and fair.

“Involving the NLA ensures transparency and reduces any potential bias,” she added. “Without our involvement, people might suspect that prizes are going to friends or family, but when the NLA is involved, we ensure that the process is fair and trustworthy.”

Broader Context and Government’s Impact

Jones Darmoe, Group Head for Business Banking at Access Bank, also shared insights into why the bank has focused on the youth. He explained that the recent reduction in treasury bill rates by the government has led many people to seek alternative savings options. This shift has made the Fa Ketewa Bɛgye Kɛseɛ promo even more relevant, as it encourages savings among youth and business owners alike.

“With the reduction in treasury bill rates, we are seeing more money coming into the banks, creating an opportunity for us to lend this money to people who need it for business growth,” Mr. Darmoe said. “This presents an excellent opportunity for young people, especially students, to save and plan for their future.”
