Gov’t Allocates Funds for Green City Feasibility Studies – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Minister of Finance is making budgetary provisions to fund the feasibility studies and design of the proposed Green City project.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Multi-purpose Solar Energy Project at the Dawa Industrial Park in Agotor on Thursday, November 6, President Mahama said the Green City will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including modern drainage systems, improved sanitation, dedicated commercial districts, and regulated markets, warning that kiosks will not be permitted.

“With the kind of gridlock that is beginning to happen in Accra, this will be a new city that attracts investment and tourism. It will be a smart city with modern drainage systems, proper sanitation, and there will be no kiosks,” he noted.

President Mahama said the Green City project forms part of the government’s vision to build a sustainable and digitally integrated urban center that supports industrialization and economic growth.

“Everything that is happening here is being integrated into the green digital city we have envisioned for Ghana. The feasibility studies and designs will begin by the end of this year, and the Ministry of Finance is already making budgetary provision for them,” he revealed.

He further explained that the proposed Green City will cover a vast area stretching from the Saglemi Housing Estate through the Bondase Military Range, linking the Volta and Eastern Regions.

“All that is happening here is not in isolation because the city stretches from Dawa Industrial Park, including the Saglemi Housing Estate, through Bondase Military Range into the Volta and Eastern Regions,” he said.
