Eat well, move more: The key to better health

By Solomon Nartey Tetteh

Registered dietitian Sarah Salomey Kalley Okine has urged Ghanaians to combine healthy eating with an active lifestyle, stressing that nutrition alone is not enough to maintain good health. Her comments come amid rising lifestyle-related health issues in Ghana, especially among urban residents and office workers.

Speaking on Zed Wellness Link on Sunday, June 1, 2025, Okine explained that while proper nutrition is essential, it must be paired with healthy habits to achieve lasting results.

“Good nutrition must go hand-in-hand with a healthy lifestyle. Eating well alone isn’t enough—without the right habits, it won’t be effective. You need both to maintain hormonal balance and keep your body strong,” she said.

Okine also emphasized staying active and well-hydrated, encouraging small but consistent lifestyle changes.

“If you normally take the elevator from the 1st to the 5th floor, try taking the stairs from the 5th to the 10th floor instead. The next day, go a little further. Step by step, you’ll eventually be able to climb all 10 floors without the elevator,” she advised.
