Bibiani Goldstars snub Maxwell Konadu, target expatriate coach

For many ardent followers of the Ghana Premier League, the sudden decision by Bibiani Goldstars to pass on former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is both surprising and difficult to comprehend, given the current situation of the Miners.

Earlier reports had strongly linked him to the position. The experienced tactician was widely expected to replace Frimpong Manso, who was dismissed just two games into the new Ghana Premier League season.

Manso’s sacking shocked many football fans and pundits, especially given his historic achievement last season. The veteran coach led Bibiani Goldstars to their first-ever Ghana Premier League title in May, a feat that secured his place in the club’s history.

However, a 2-0 home defeat to Algerian side JS Kabylie in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round proved costly.

The club’s management, dissatisfied with the early exit prospects in continental competition, acted swiftly and relieved him of his duties. For now, assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah has been placed in temporary charge as Goldstars look to steady their form.

Sources indicate that the club has shifted its attention towards hiring a foreign manager, believing an expatriate could bring new ideas and international experience.

While Konadu’s possible appointment had excited many fans, the club’s board appears determined to explore a different direction to sustain their ambitions both locally and on the continent.

Meanwhile, Goldstars defeated Kpando Hearts of Lions 3-1 at the Duns Park in Bibiani on Monday evening to climb into the top half of the 2025/26 GPL table, with one outstanding fixture remaining.
